Time: |
60-90 minutes |
Requirements: |
|
Hardware: |
2-3 students per computer; Internet connection |
Software: |
Any Web Browser Word processor |
Knowledge: |
Students should be familiar with surfing the web and using a word
processor |
Procedure: |
|
Pre-computer
work: |
1.
Before
the lesson, the teacher should check that there is a relevant list of
forthcoming films on the web site for the country/region they are working
in. 2.
Put
the students into groups of 2-3 at each computer.
Explain to the students that they are going to see a list of
forthcoming films in their area. They
have to choose a film they wish to find out more about, with each group
selecting a different film. |
Computer
work: |
3.
The
students load the list and choose their film. 4.
They
read the information available about the film and make notes in a word
processor file. 5.
The
students then rearrange the notes so that they are suitable to use in a
presentation to the other students. |
Post-computer
work: |
6.
The
students give their presentation trying to persuade the other students to
see the film 7.
At
the end, the class votes on which film(s) they would be interested in
seeing. |
Notes: |
Sample location - The Internet
Movie Database: http://www.cinecon.com/index.html (Cinema confidential) http://www.tvguide.com/movies/
(Movie Guide) The Presentations could take place the lesson after if your computer
access time is limited. |
Variations: |
1.
The
notes that the students make for their presentation could be E-Mailed to
the teacher (or another group), who can read and (peer) correct them. 2.
If
the students or the school has its own intranet or internet pages, they
could put this information into a forthcoming films section which they
regularly update. 3.
Students
could go and see a film when it opens and write a review on it, comparing
their opinion with the reviews they have read about it, and a collection
of class movie reviews can be built up. |
